Youth Donor Club Camp 2010

From the 25th to 28th December, I attended a Youth Donor Camp. It was the 6th time YDC was organising this camp. It was really a fun and educational camp. We were not only educated about blood donation, we were also informed about being a youth blood donor club member. As I had donated 26 times, I was more or less familiar with what was going on during the lecture. Personally I enjoyed donating blood because I felt really privileged to be used by God to save lives. I started my blood donation journey when I was in my first year of junior college. After the first few times donating blood, I was told that I had a vein which made me eligible for the apheresis donation. This procedure was slightly longer than a normal blood donation and i would be donating blood plasma and platelets instead of a whole blood. I could also donate once a month instead of once in 3 months. Donating blood is a noble act because 1 pack of blood can save 3 lives, for e.g when patients underwent surgeries. Moreover, the donation of plasma can help treat various muscle disorders and the donation of platelets can be used to treat cancer patients and people infected with dengue fever. Hence it was indeed a previlege to donate whatever that was given to you by God. And I am cheerful and willing to give whatever that was given to me :))) During the camp, we also had various fun and games. We sang campfire songs, dance, cheer, made our camp flag and threw water bombs at each other. It was really fun and enjoyable. I remembered staying up till the wee hours of the morning to play some werewolf games, which was similar to the polar bear game. On the last day, as we leave the camp, some of us were willing to return as a camp facilitator. I can't go because of my student exchange program, but the memories would stay with me as long as God allows it to :)
